About Health Services
East Windsor Public School has our students, staff, and families’ health as our top priority. Our school department has a school nurse assigned in every school and available to all of our students and staff. We collaborate closely with the Community Health Center which is housed at the East Windsor High School and at Broad Brook Elementary School, and provides medical, dental and mental health care to students in the district that are signed up for their services.
EWPS nurses work with parents and school staff on attendance issues as it relates to medical issues. We provide education to students around many health issues such as vaping, smoking, safe dating, mental health self-awareness, flu, substance abuse, sex education, the food pyramid, diabetes, asthma care and allergy care. The nursing staff participates in the state asthma, immunization and school health surveys. We conduct vision, hearing and postural screenings for required grades. All nurses are part of their school’s response team and work on their school’s safety committee. Our nurses support CPR training for all coaches and staff in the district as well as training to staff on the use of Narcan. We oversee medication delegation and the use of inhalers, epipens and seizure medication. We have provided flu and COVID vaccine clinics for staff and students as well.
If you have health related concerns for your child, we encourage you to reach out to your school nurse.

All medication (including over the counter medication) must be accompanied by a physician order and written parental permission before medication will be administered to the student. All medication (both prescription and over the counter) must be stored in the nurse’s office. Medication must be received in its original container and be properly labeled. No more than a 30 day supply of medication can be stored at school. Medication must be transported to and from school by an adult. A physician’s order is needed in order to discontinue administering a medication. Medications left in the health office will be destroyed 7 days after the discontinue order and will also be destroyed 7 days after the end of the school year if not picked up by a parent or responsible adult.
The East Windsor School district retains the discretion to reject requests for administration of medication.
Screenings
Screenings are conducted by the Health Office staff according to the Connecticut Department of Education. If a student fails a screening, a parent/guardian notification letter is sent home requesting a follow up visit to the student’s Primary care Provider or a referral to a Specialist. Completed referral letters from physicians should be returned to the School Nurse when the referral is completed. It is very important that students who fail their screenings always have a follow up visit to their physician to ensure further treatment is not necessary. Keeping the Nursing Staff aware of any referral results is important part of the student’s health assessment.

- Hearing Screening: Performed annually on students K-1, grades 3-5
