We’re bursting with pride to share some incredible news coming out of Broad Brook Elementary School! Fourth-grade student Guardian Syronn recently achieved a remarkable feat in the world of youth music composition. Demonstrating talent and dedication far beyond his years, Guardian submitted his original musical piece, “Suspicious Sound,” to the Eastern Division Young Composers Showcase.

This prestigious competition draws submissions from talented young musicians across all East Coast state music programs. Not only was Guardian’s work successfully accepted, but it was also prominently displayed at a semi-national conference, a testament to the quality and creativity of his composition.

The excitement didn’t stop there! This past weekend, Guardian and his family had the wonderful opportunity to attend the National Association for Music Educators (NAfME) Eastern Division Conference. There, amidst musicians and educators from all over the East Coast, Guardian’s composition was showcased for all to see.

What makes this achievement even more impressive is that Guardian’s work was selected for the K-8 division and was presented alongside submissions from high school and collegiate composers. This speaks volumes about the sophistication and musicality present in “Suspicious Sound.”

Guardian’s accomplishment serves as a powerful illustration of East Windsor Public Schools’ commitment to the Portrait of the Graduate, our district-wide initiative designed to empower every student to achieve success. By fostering creativity, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and citizenship – key tenets of the Portrait of the Graduate – we aim to cultivate well-rounded individuals like Guardian who can explore their passions and make meaningful contributions. His initiative in composing, his courage in submitting his work, and his engagement with the broader musical community at the conference perfectly embody the aspirations we hold for all our students.

Beyond the honor of having his work displayed, the conference provided Guardian with invaluable experiences. He had the chance to connect with other young musicians, both his age and older, who share his passion for composition. Furthermore, Guardian had the unique opportunity to meet a professional composer, offering him a glimpse into the world of music as a career.

This incredible accomplishment is a shining example of the amazing things our students can achieve and the talent nurtured within our schools. Congratulations, Guardian, on this well-deserved recognition! We can’t wait to hear what melodies you create next. The entire EWPS community celebrates your success!
