As graduation day draws near, we’re thrilled to begin a special three-part “Senior Spotlight” series, celebrating the remarkable journeys of nine outstanding East Windsor High School seniors. In each post, we’ll share a glimpse into the diverse experiences, hard work, and unique paths that have shaped their high school careers as they prepare for their next exciting adventures.

Below are our first three students: Mariella Lukasik, Kristina Keyes, and Loghan LaBelle

Mariella Lukasik: From Captain to Valedictorian

Mariella Lukasik, East Windsor High School’s Valedictorian for the Class of 2025, has certainly made her mark. During her time at EWHS, Mariella was a true leader, serving as captain for both varsity indoor and outdoor track and field, and varsity cross country. Beyond athletics, she was deeply involved in student life as vice president of student government, president of the National Honors Society, and even represented students on the Board of Education. She also participated in Model Congress and Model United Nations.

Next year, Mariella is headed to the University of Connecticut to study biological sciences. When asked about her favorite teacher, Mariella quickly named Mr. Masters, her government and economics teacher and coach. “Mr. Masters has helped me so much not only as an educator but as a coach,” she shared, highlighting his willingness to go above and beyond to support students and athletes.

Mariella’s advice to incoming ninth graders emphasizes balance: “School is your number one priority – be sure to study and avoid procrastination – but balance is key. Give yourself a break once in a while to hang out with friends and do the things you enjoy.” What makes EWHS special to Mariella is its strong community. “Every teacher here knows their students on a personal level, and kids here can rely on their teachers to be there for them,” she explained. Her proudest high school accomplishment? Becoming Valedictorian.

Kristina Keyes: A Well-Rounded Leader Ready for Engineering

Our Salutatorian, Kristina Keyes, is another shining example of a dedicated and involved student. Kristina’s high school career was packed with activities, including serving as NHS Treasurer and Student Government Treasurer. She was also a Safe School Leader, played in Jazz and Concert band, and was a varsity athlete in soccer, basketball, and captain of the softball team. Like Mariella, she also participated in Model UN/Model Congress.

Kristina’s next step takes her to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where she will study Chemical Engineering. Her favorite teacher, Ms. Miodonka, taught her geometry and AP Statistics and also coached her in softball. Kristina’s advice for freshmen is to embrace new experiences: “Join everything you can and push yourself, it is better to have to drop something than to not try it at all.”

For Kristina, the supportive nature of her teachers made EWHS special. “Many of my teachers are very supportive and push me to be the best I can,” she said. She appreciates how the smaller school environment allowed for “1 on 1 teaching which set me up for my future and taught me how to ask for help and succeed.” Kristina is most proud of earning the title of Class of 2025 Salutatorian.

Loghan LaBelle: Athletic Achievements and Academic Growth

Loghan LaBelle has also left a significant mark on East Windsor High School, particularly on the athletic fields. Loghan was a dedicated athlete, serving as captain for both varsity soccer and varsity track and field.

Next year, Loghan will be attending UConn to study mathematics and physics. His favorite teacher was Ms. Kotula, who taught AP Lang/UConn ECE. Loghan praised her as an “excellent teacher who had pushed all of us to write to the best of our ability.”

Loghan’s advice to incoming freshmen is straightforward: “Play sports, and make sure you get good grades even as a freshman, because it does matter.” He also values the small school atmosphere of EWHS, noting that “everyone knows everyone.” Loghan’s proudest high school accomplishments showcase his incredible growth: starting his high school career in Algebra I and completing it in AP Calculus, becoming a two-sport varsity captain, and setting a school record in the 400-meter sprint in track.

Congratulations once again to Mariella, Kristina, and Loghan! We wish them all the best as they embark on their exciting post-graduation journeys.
