In East Windsor, the commitment to student success extends far beyond the traditional classroom. Rooted in the district-wide Portrait of the Graduate initiative – a powerful promise that every student will be an informed life-long learner, a self-aware individual, and a responsible citizen ready for college, career, and life – programs like the Educators Rising at East Windsor High School and East Windsor Middle School are actively shaping the future. This inspiring initiative empowers students to explore careers in education.

Educators Rising provides a unique platform for students to gain hands-on experience, develop leadership skills, and learn the intricacies of the teaching profession. From engaging in lesson planning to understanding classroom management techniques, these young individuals are taking meaningful steps towards becoming the educators of tomorrow.

The program boasts enthusiastic participation from students across grade levels. Among the talented middle schoolers involved are Delaney Tepper, Tierney Mehan, Giana Guzie, Lorelai Standish, and Raysalie Deleon. Their early exposure to the world of education lays a strong foundation for future exploration and growth.

At the high school level, a dedicated group of students is diving deeper into the program. These future leaders include Athie Decker, Aubrianna DeSorbo, Thomas Ferrick, Jack Kittredge, Jonathan Macri, Rylee Macsata, Rosaly Nogeurra, and Aislinn Recinos. Their commitment and passion are truly inspiring.

The dedication of these students was further highlighted on the morning of Friday, April 25th, when student members of Educators Rising from both EWMS and EWHS came together for an engaging and insightful workshop focused on the teaching profession. Presented by the Academic Leadership Association, the workshop provided students with a deeper understanding of the field of education. Participants explored effective teaching practices, reflected on the importance of building strong relationship skills, and considered how a positive and growth-oriented mindset plays a critical role in being a successful educator. The experience offered valuable insights for those aspiring to shape the future through teaching.

Leading this vital grant-funded program is Cheryl Gustafson, the district’s Safe School Climate and Equity Director. Her guidance and vision are instrumental in fostering a supportive and enriching environment for these aspiring educators.

“Educators Rising provides an invaluable opportunity for our students to explore their interest in education while developing crucial skills in leadership, collaboration, and communication,” says Cheryl Gustafson. “It’s incredibly rewarding to see their passion for learning and their desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others. This program directly supports the Portrait of the Graduate by cultivating informed, engaged individuals who are prepared to contribute meaningfully to their communities, whether they ultimately pursue a career in education or any other field.”

The East Windsor community will have the opportunity to hear directly from these impressive students later this week. Students from EWHS will be presenting at the East Windsor Board of Education meeting this Wednesday, May 14th, starting at 7 PM. This will be a chance to witness firsthand the dedication and insights of these future educators.

The work being done within East Windsor High School’s Educators Rising program, made possible through grant funding, is a testament to the district’s proactive approach to nurturing talent and fostering a pipeline of future educators. By providing these students with real-world experiences and mentorship, East Windsor Public Schools is not only investing in the future of education but also empowering these young individuals to become the well-rounded, capable citizens envisioned by the Portrait of the Graduate. The dedication of these students and the leadership of Cheryl Gustafson paint a bright picture for the future of education in East Windsor.
