The mission of the utilization of a School Resource Officer (SRO) in district schools is to accomplish the following goals:
- To provide a safe learning environment and help reduce school violence.
- To improve schools/law enforcement collaboration.
- To improve perceptions and relations among students, staff, and law enforcement officials.
- To collaborate with members of the school and district staff, local law enforcement, fire service, public safety and emergency agencies, and parents/guardians to develop proficient school safety/crisis plans.
The School Resource Officer (SRO) provides a visible presence in the District’s schools, allowing students and staff to develop a trust and positive attitude towards law enforcement officials. The SRO operates as a liaison between the community and the District while investigating and documenting law enforcement incidents.
