It is our pleasure to present images from the first ever District-Wide Spring Art Show! We presented these artworks with pride- for these works represented much more than just “Art”- they were an extension of the artists themselves. We work with the students day in and day out. We guide the students to develop artistic behaviors and thinking. We support them in their struggles, and we help them find creative solutions. We see our students coming to class ready to learn, listen to instruction and guidance and take risks. They try new things. We see them explore different avenues, plan, discuss with peers, and revise. We see them fail. We see them succeed. We see them as working artists. As a result, these artworks that were on display were the fruits of their labor!
In this show were original artworks from Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade. There were mixed media, collages, pen & ink, painting, oil pastels, chalk pastels, graphite drawings, realistic and abstract art, digital photography, digital art, and more! Mostly there was impressive personal expression!
The framed artwork on display in the main room were recently showcased at the Art at the Capitol event. This event has occurred for over 34 years and is such an honor! Student work is chosen to be on display at the state capitol- and each artist receives an official Senate Citation for their excellence! We were so proud to be able to share these works with you!
An opening reception was held on Monday, May 20th from 5-7 pm to kick off the show! Light refreshments were served. Over 260 artists and families came to the opening! This was a great night- a great success!
Many people spent time walking around, looking, and enjoying the artwork for the two weeks it was up. Each time someone visited the artwork- they were surprised to notice new things with each visit! There is so much to see!
As always, there was a guest book in the main room. Many people took the time to write/sign their name and/or leave feedback, message, and memories. Thank you all who came out to enjoy the show!
…..until next year!!!!
